Lodge Facilities & Layout
JAG Farms Lodge is designed to feel like a well-run farm home rather than a hotel. Rooms are simple, warm, and practical, with spaces built for real people, real gear, and real conversations.
Lodge Overview
The lodge is a compact, shared space suited to small groups, families, and delegations. Exact room numbers and layout may change as the project develops, but the core structure is planned as:
- Guest bedrooms (twin, double, and small family rooms).
- Shared bathrooms and shower facilities.
- A central lodge kitchen and dining area.
- Lounge space for reading, music, and kōrero.
- Decks and outdoor areas facing farm and/or harbour views.
Guest Rooms
Rooms are set up to be comfortable and practical rather than luxurious. Think “good sleep on an Island farm” rather than “city hotel”.
- Firm mattresses with proper bases.
- Warm bedding suitable for coastal nights (extra blankets available).
- Hooks, shelves, and simple storage for bags and clothing.
- Reading lamps where possible.
- Windows that open to fresh air and natural light.
Final room configuration (number of beds and room names) will be confirmed once renovations and layouts are complete.
Bathrooms & Showers
Bathrooms are shared lodge-style, cleaned regularly and kept as simple and functional as possible.
- Separate toilets and showers where layout allows.
- Good hot water supply, subject to Island power and water systems.
- Hooks and shelves for towels and toiletries.
- Basic lodge towels provided (you may bring your own if preferred).
Kitchen & Dining Area
The heart of JAG Farms Lodge is the kitchen and dining table. This is where breakfasts, baking, and evening meals are prepared and shared.
- Working kitchen with stove, ovens, fridges, and prep benches.
- Long shared dining table for communal meals.
- Tea and coffee station for guests to use between meals.
- Access to basic plates, cups, and cutlery.
Guests are welcome in the kitchen at appropriate times, especially during cooking workshops or shared preparation sessions.
Lounge & Common Areas
Between farm visits and coastal walks, guests need places to sit, think, and talk. The lodge will include:
- Indoor seating area with chairs, couches, and side tables.
- Books, maps, and simple games where possible.
- Space for guitars, quiet music, or evening kōrero.
- Deck or outdoor seating facing the surrounding landscape.
Gear, Boots & Drying Space
Because JAG Farms Lodge is a farm and coastal base, we plan for wet coats, muddy boots, rods, and gear.
- Boot racks and mats at key entrances.
- Hooks for jackets and rain gear.
- Drying lines or racks for wet clothing (weather and space dependent).
- Basic cleaning gear for boots and equipment.
Connectivity & Power
Matakana Island is close to Tauranga but still an Island with its own infrastructure realities.
- Electricity is available, but occasional outages are possible in storms.
- Internet and mobile coverage may be present but variable.
- Guests are encouraged to treat any downtime as part of the retreat.
Final decisions about Wi-Fi availability will be made closer to opening, balancing guest needs with the lodge’s “unplug and reset” philosophy.
Accessibility & Mobility
The lodge will aim to be as accessible as the Island and farm environment allow. However, guests should be aware that:
- Some paths may be uneven, grassy, or gravel-based.
- Steps or raised entries may be present in older buildings.
- Vehicle transfers from barge to lodge may involve short walks on farm surfaces.
If you or someone in your group has specific mobility needs, please let us know during the inquiry stage so we can give honest guidance on suitability and support.
As JAG Farms Lodge develops, photos and floor plans will be added here so guests can see exactly what to expect. For now, think of it as a tidy, hardworking farm house – with a long table, good beds, and room for boots by the door.
