FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions & Answers
Every collaboration begins with curiosity.
No two songwriting projects are ever quite the same.
Here are a few of the questions I am most often asked about collaboration, lyric writing and the creative process.
Do you write complete songs?
My primary focus is lyric writing and storytelling. Sometimes I contribute melodic ideas during the writing process, but I enjoy working alongside composers and musicians who bring their own musical voice to the collaboration.
Can you write lyrics to an existing melody?
Yes.
Many collaborations begin with a completed melody or musical sketch. Understanding the rhythm, phrasing and emotional intent of the music is an important part of developing lyrics that feel natural.
Can we collaborate remotely?
Absolutely.
Modern technology allows writers, composers and musicians to work together from almost anywhere in the world. Some of my most rewarding collaborations have developed across countries and time zones.
What types of projects interest you?
Who owns the finished work?
Every project is different.
Ownership, publishing, copyright and royalties are matters best discussed openly at the beginning of a collaboration so that everyone shares the same understanding before creative work begins.
What Matters Most?
Good communication.
Mutual respect.
A shared commitment to creating the strongest song possible.
Everything else usually finds its place naturally.
What if I simply have an idea?
That’s often the best place to begin.
Many successful collaborations start with nothing more than a conversation, a memory or a story waiting to become a song.
Still Curious?
If your question isn’t answered here, I’d be pleased to hear from you.
